Experimentation Self Portrait

THEME: IDENTITY

I HAD A LITTLE EXPERIMENT ON ME THANKS TO MY MUM WHO TOOK THE PHOTO OF ME.

• AS YOU CAN SEE IN THESE TWO PHOTO'S THEY WERE BOTH TAKEN AS A LANDSCAPE AND A PORTRAIT.
• THIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN ON A SUNDAY BEFORE AND AFTER I WENT TO CHURCH
• WHAT I AM WEARING IS A JACKET THAT HAS THE LOGO OF MY AMERICAN FOOTBALL TEAM WHICH I HAD RECEIVED FROM OUR PRIZE GIVING JUST RECENTLY.
• THAT IS THE TWO THINGS THAT KIND OF REPRESENTS ME WHICH IS AMERICAN FOOTBALL (NFL, GRID IRON).

WHAT WORKED?

What worked was that the picture looked great and that the composition is perfect, the aperture and shutter was fine, and the model did not move.

WHAT DID NOT WORK?

What didn't work is that the person who took the photo did not put the mode on Manual but she changed it to Automatic. I think that is the reason why the photo looks perfect. However in the second photo it seems like the photo is out of focus and its blurry. Another thing that didn't work is that i did not have a clear background as you can see in the first photo the bed, the door and the black board was in the way so it was impossible for me to have a clear background. On the 2nd photo it was out of focus on the top bit or my face and on the bottom or from my shoulder all the way down to my feet were in focus. another thing was that it was in a diagonal position so the person who took the photo did not hold the camera properly. 

WHAT TO IMPROVE NEXT TIME?

Next time when i have the opportunity i will get a volunteer from the class to help me by taking a photo of me in class and i will also try to book the studio so i can take the photo there. Also i will try and get a better camera so that the photo of me will be in focus because the camera i have now is not very good.

THIS IS MY RULE OF THIRDS. I WENT TO THE OTARA SHOPPING CENTRE AND TOOK A PHOTO OF IT VISUALISING IMAGINARY LINES THAT IS ALSO CALLED AS THE RULE OF THIRDS. AFTER THAT I USED PHOTOSHOP AND GOT THE RULE OF THIRDS GRID FROM GOOGLE IMAGES AND THIS WAS THE RESULT

This is a photo taken by Chris McEniry. He is a photographer who takes photographs of some of the top athletes in the world. Chris has travelled all around the world on assignments and has taken photos of top athletes in various locations but as for these photos were taken in a studio. Chris has worked with some of the worlds leading publications in the world such as; Nike, New York Times Magazine, Getty Images, Rolling Stone, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Taco Truck Creative etc. He is also a Co-owner of Overflow Productions Inc. with his wife Kim McEniry. This is helpful for me as i am doing my self portrait based on my identity and American Football or in other words Gridiron is part of my identity its not because i was born in america but its because i play Gridiron here in New Zealand. I started playing Gridiron in 2012 and ever since then year after year i got a little bit better at it and it has changed my life as a person and athlete. That is why American Football is part of my Identity.

Edith Amituana'i is a Samoan New Zealand Photographer who was raised in Christchurch. She Graduated in 2005 receiving a bachelor of design in Unitec. Her main subjects are mainly the Samoan community living in New Zealand. She is mostly drawn to portraits. she has many achievements including the Trust Waikato National Contemporary Art Award, The Martin Hughes Contemporary Pacific Art Award in Auckland and The KLM Paul Huf Award in Amsterdam.

These are some of the photos that were taken by Edith Amituana'i from the series Dejeuner which is French for lunch. These 2 gentlemen are Professional Rugby players who are playing rugby overseas in France and according to the New Zealand Herald, May 23, 2007, Toleafoa was homesick and he told Edith that he missed Sunday lunch with his Grandma. So Edith went to France and took photos of Philemon Toleafoa.

Edith's photograghs could help me out with my Self Portrait because her main Subjects is the Samoan Community living in New Zealand which is also another part of my Identity. As a Samoan and Pacific Islander Sport has become a third wave of migrations as Samoans and Pacific islanders. This could also be helpful because most of her photos are portraits and that is how i am going to take my photo. I am going to get someone to photograph me and i want it to be a portrait.

Paper Plane Experimentation

I was given a task to make 2 paper planes and the experiment was to fly the paper plane and see how far it goes.

What Worked?: what worked was that it went well and it went far.
What didn't Work?: What didn't work was that it did not go far as i expected
What Next?: What i am going to do next is that I am going to make a new one and see if it goes further than the previous one.

EVALUATION BUMPER STICKER

I WAS GIVEN A BUMPER STICKER BY MY LECTURER AND THE BUMPER STICKER HAD TO HAVE A SAYING THAT REMIND YOU ABOUT EVALUATION SO I ASKED IF I COULD DO A PHOTOSHOP VERSION OF MY BUMPER STICKER AND SHE SAID YES SO I CAME UP WITH 2 DESIGNS, ONE OF THEM WAS JUST AN EXPERIMENTAL BUMPER STICKER WHICH TURNED OUT GREAT FOR ME AS A PACIFIC ISLANDER BUT THEN I HAD A THOUGHT IN MY HEAD THAT SAID "WHAT IF NOBODY FROM OTHER CULTURES DON'T UNDERSTAND ABOUT WHAT THE STICKER IS TRYING TO SAY (FOR EXAMPLE PAKEHA PEOPLE). SO I HAD ANOTHER IDEA IN MY HEAD AND MADE IT MORE PLAINLY ENGLISH AND UNDERSTANDABLE WHICH CLEARLY RELATES TO EVALUATION.

 So I was given a task by my Lecturer to use the Adobe Bridge CC and apparently last year i had a little bit of knowledge on how to use this program but somehow this year this version of the Adobe Bridge is somehow new to me because i was not familiar with this version of Adobe Bridge.

Besides that I find this very useful because its better to print out pictures in to 1 paper rather than just wasting paper and trees.

Another useful way for this is to organise your images and putting them into a folder and making sure that they are all saved into one folder and that you remember where you put it so that next

What is art to me?

I believe that art is all about Creativity and Motivation. As you can see in some of these photos that they are all pictures of artworks that i did back in high school and how i had to create artworks using different types of media such as screen printing, painting, drawing, and photography and photoshop. The other pictures are pictures of things that motivate me to do art.
